DESCRIPTION:Locatie: Concertzaal Trefpunt @ Gent \n–English version below–\n\nVus’umuzi (Vusi) Nhlapo is een Zuid-Afrikaanse zangvirtuoos met een aanstekelijke vibe & groove. In België kennen we hem via zijn samenwerking met Frederik Sioen & hun live-interpretatie van Paul Simons ‘Graceland’\, en ook in veel andere landen was hij een welgekomen gast voor samenwerkingen met o.a. Abdullah Ibrahim\, Andreas Vollenweider & Tutu Puoane. Eind februari tourt Vusi doorheen de Vlaamse theaterzalen met zijn ensemble Cula Mzansi & maakt hij een tussenstop bij ZING!\n\nOverdag organiseren we een masterclass voor zangdocenten\, koorleiders en (backing) vocals. ’s Avonds gooien we onze benen én stembanden los voor een Zuid-Afrikaans vocaal feest van formaat. Vusi zal ons meenemen in de muzikale geschiedenis van Zuid-Afrika van voor en na de apartheid. Mensen zoals Miriam Makeba & Abdullah Ibrahim gebruikten muziek als medium om de wereld te informeren over het onrecht in Zuid-Afrika en brachten hoop voor al wie onderdrukt werd. Op die manier is de muzikale traditie sterk verweven met de culturele\, sociale en politieke geschiedenis van Zuid-Afrika.\n\nDoorheen de masterclass neemt Vusi ons wat dieper mee in de muzikale details van de jaren 50 & 60: Zulu\, Isicathamiya en Isixhosa muziek. We experimenteren met de harmonische aspecten van deze taalgroepen en de clicks die ze gebruiken om hun muziek te verrijken. Denk Miriam Makeba\, Ladysmith Black Mambazo en nog vele andere Zuid-Afrikaanse muzikale grootheden.\n\nDoorheen de avondsessie ligt de focus op het Zuid-Afrikaanse zingen & grooven. Denk ‘Pata pata’ van Miriam Makeba\, en laat je inspireren door een cultuur waarin samen zingen en samen leven eigenlijk hetzelfde zijn.\n\nDeze speciale sessies worden gehost door Vusi Nhlapo\, Lisa Jordens (ZING) & Johanna Blumm. Lisa is DJ zangeres & violiste met een passie voor verbinding & feest. Met ZING brengt ze mensen bijeen om meerstemmig zingend feest te vieren. Johanna Blumm is een Belgische singer-songwriter & soundscaper met een expertise in cross-culturele vocale muziek. Door het hosten van inclusieve zangevenementen werkt zij al meer dan 15 jaar aan een warme & verbonden samenleving waarin iedereen zich welkom voelt om zijn stem te laten klinken.\n\n— ENGLISH VERSION\nVusi Nhlapo is a South-African vocal virtuoso who exhibits a infectious vibe and groove. Here in Belgium he is particularly well-known for his work with Frederik Sioen on his live interpretation of Paul Simon’s Graceland\, and in many other countries too for his collaborations with artists such as Abdullah Ibrahim\, Andreas Vollenweider & Tutu Puoane. At the end of February Vusi is touring the Flemish theaters with his ensemble Cula Mzansi\, and we’re thrilled to announce that he’ll be making a stop-over at ZING.\n\nDuring the day we’re organising a masterclass for vocal coaches\, choir leaders and (backing) vocalists. In the evening we’ll be loosening up our vocal chords and our leg muscles for a major South-African vocal party. Vusi will take us on a journey through the musical history of South Africa from both before and after apartheid. Icons like Miriam Makeba and Abdullah Ibrahim used music as a powerful tool to shed light on the injustices in South Africa. Their music became a beacon of hope for all those oppressed under apartheid\, making it an essential part of the nation’s social\, cultural and political history.\n\nDuring the masterclass\, Vusi will dive into the musical intricacies of the 1950s and 60s\, exploring Zulu\, Isicathamiya\, and Isixhosa music. We’ll uncover the harmonic elements of these language groups\, and the unique clicks that enhance their sound. Think Miriam Makeba\, Ladysmith Black Mambazo\, and many other South African musical legends.\n\nDuring the evening session\, the focus will shift to South African singing and grooving. Again\, think “Pata Pata” by Miriam Makeba\, and get ready to be inspired by a culture where singing together and living together are interchangeable.\n\nThese special sessions are hosted by Vusi Nhlapo\, Lisa Jordens (ZING) and Johanna Blumm. Lisa is a DJ\, singer and violinist with a passion for connection and celebration. With ZING she brings people together for a polyphonic vocal celebration. Johanna Blumm is a Belgian singer-songwriter and soundscaper with an expertise in cross-cultural vocal music.
